Richland Gardens:

West Nashville's Growing Local Food Movement

In March of 2009 Good Food for Good People was welcomed into the Sylvan Park Neighborhood to garden on two prime pieces of bottom land along the Richland Creek.  Working with a broad community network of local food enthusiasts, St. Ann's Catholic School, the neighborhood restauranteers and a handful of homeschool families with a vision, we broke ground and began growing an urban farming enterprise where people get to experiment with a local, organic food system that is edible, enlightening and empowering.

In the gardens, farmers and friends are growing organic food with one another. Good Food for Good People sells the food through our Nashville Farm to Chef program, our mobile Veggie Van and perhaps by August 15,  at our neighborhood farmers market. Along the way, we are teaching one another about the art of agronomy, science, culture and cuisine. The gardens offer sites for youth to experience service learning, neighbors to enjoy exercise and community and a few folks even make a paycheck. Richland Gardens is a work of enrichment and experiment with balance and beauty.

The Gardens grow according to USDA Organic Certification standard and take further precautions. There are no residuals of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides on our produce, the fertility in our gardens is retained and enhanced by are farming practices and we work actively to protect and support the environmental integrity of our neighborhoods. To get a look at the details, please take some time to visit  our blogs and photo albums. We also maintain cool FarmNotes and encourage you to check in regularly.
